The Raw Deal At Veterans Village of San Diego

The article on the website announces the Veteran Village of San Diego constitution:

Veterans Rehabilitation Center
4141 Pacific Hwy.
San Diego, CA 92110

Veterans Village of San Diego operates a State Licensed Alcohol & Drug Treatment Center near Downtown San Diego for homeless male and female veterans of all wars and eras. The VRC offers residents a safe, clean and sober village-like setting for several months to a year, depending upon individual needs. The program, originally formulated as a social model, is now integrated with structured case management and mental health therapy and simultaneously addresses the addictions, mental health problems, medical needs, family issues, spiritual development and employment training and placement requirements of each resident.

This multi-service approach is divided into three phases: Recovery Services, Employment Development, and Community Reintegration. Abstinence, following a 12-Step model, is the "sine-qua-non" essential; nurturing of individual strength and pride through community participation is the organizing principle; and full employment, independence and reintegration into the San Diego community is the goal.

This all sounds very reasonable, altruistic and lawful if, in fact, the "sine-qua-non," or "without which (there is) nothing" Alcoholic Anonymous (AA) 12-Step Model is valid. The problem is this method of recovery from addiction advocated by AA is at best a method to recovery successful only among people who would be successful in any recovery program, or by self recovery based on free will alone, and at worse may lead to death by suicide or a slow death in addiction.

I will not repeat all the arguments against using the AA 12-Step Program, I think the online book
THE ORANGE PAPERS, exposes in detail the progress of AA from its roots in the neo-Nazi Oxford Group to its present evolution as the Alpha and Omega of recovery programs.

Perhaps the fascist orientation of AA could be ignored or rationalized if it enjoyed great success in the recovery from addiction. Alas! No such objective statistics exist. One can only go by self reported tales of personal triumph over addiction by using the AA method that may or may not be true. What statistics that do exist in regards to addiction recovery are figures cooked up the AA national organization or like minded allies.

Thus at the Veterans Village of San Diego (V.V.S.D.) a great tragedy has occurred: Former members of the Armed Forces of a Free Republic are subjected to a fascist program of brain washing that results in a cure rate of about 2%. I understand in any group of 100 addicts five will cease using drugs and recovery on their own. This means attendance in a 12-step program actually makes worse a miserable recovery rate and kills people who would have recovered if left to their own devices.
